Class of 1997 (Tennis) Chad was the captain of the 1996 HIES state-champion tennis team – the only state title squad in school history. Playing the top-singles position, he was also ranked #1 as a junior in the entire state. He was ranked in the top-10 and as high as No. 2 as a USA junior for three straight years, and was also the leading scorer for the 1996 Golden Bear soccer team. Carlson went on to star at the University of Georgia. He was a member of the 1999 NCAA national champion squad, was named All-SEC in singles and doubles, was a member of the USTA College national team and captain of the 2001 NCAA champion men’s team. Carlson’s win was the decisive match to clinch the title. Carlson played on the pro tour and was on the USTA professional rookie team and won two pro tournaments.
