Golf Coach Jim Griffin Honored!

Earns Jack Feagin Award as Community Coach

Holy Innocents' athletics is proud to announce that former head golf coach and now community coach Jim Griffin has been named recipient of the 2024-2025 Jack Feagin Award. Jim served as head golf for 10 years and just finished his 10th year at the helm in a community coach capacity.

The award celebrates the unsung heroes of our athletics community whose dedication, passion, and commitment to HIES athletics considerably exceed the boundaries of expectation. This prestigious accolade recognizes a community coach member who not only embodies the mission of Holy Innocents', but also goes above and beyond, transcending the outlined expectations set forth by the Athletic Department. Whether through their relentless work ethic, unwavering dedication, or transformative impact, they continue to raise the bar for excellence in education-based athletics.

"I'm pleased and honored to get this award," Jim said. "It's very flattering though not expected, as I've always thought of myself as being someone who's just helping out. Still, it's interesting that it's the Jack Feagin Award, as Jack brought me into coaching my first few years here in the Middle School basketball program."

Jim did lots here – including 19 years as the school's full time business manager. After his stint with Middle School hoops, he then moved into the golf program. After he retired in 2015, Jason Rutledge – now the Director of Golf – kept Jim back in the game with both the girls' and boys' teams. Coach Rutledge had this to say about Jim:

"Jim Griffin is the embodiment of what the Jack Feagin Award represents—a true unsung hero whose dedication, passion, and commitment to HIES athletics go far beyond expectations. His love for students, unwavering support for our school, and deep investment in our community make a lasting impact on everyone he encounters.

"His commitment to HIES athletics is truly extraordinary. Even after retiring eight years ago, his passion for mentoring students continues to bring him back to the golf course, coaching and guiding our golfers whenever he has the opportunity. His dedication goes beyond just coaching—he serves as a mentor, encourager, and role model for our student-athletes. The kids love being around him because he fosters an environment where every student feels valued, ensuring that athletes of all skill levels receive his full attention and support."

During Jim's tenures, the Bears have captured numerous region titles, plenty of top five finishes and, during his community coach years, the boys have won a state title while the girls have won two. Most recently, the girls team brought home the crown just over a week ago while the boys turned in a fourth place finish.

"It's been good to see the players from here who have moved on to play at the collegiate level," Jim added. "Looking at the game now, it's amazing how good the players are."

Please join us in congratulating Jim on all he has done and continues to do at our school.
