Balls were being hit, thrown, cradled, and shot all over the place this weekend, while runners, jumpers, and relay people also did their thing. Below are the recaps:
Â
Lacrosse: The girls and boys had split results Friday, as our girls fell 19-9 to Pace while the boys edged the Knights 4-3.Â
Â
Starting with the girls, Virginia Commonwealth signee
Kathleen Nichols was a force as always; she had great support around her in Gabby Mace,
Alma Frazier, and Lizzy Lindner.
Â
On the boys' side, Coach
Patrick Ammons' squad found themselves down 3-0 early. "We were able to keep our composure, battle back, and hold them scoreless in the second half," Ammons said.
Â
As far as standouts, it was an A-to-Z of all who were on the field in what coach considered "a true team effort. Together we won that game."
Â
Soccer: Our boys battled hard on Baker Field Friday afternoon/night, but unfortunately came up on the short end of a 3-1 score against Druid Hills.
Tucker Gleeson scored the goal off a good pass from
Alex Weir.
Connor Hawk had an exceptional game as well.Â
Â
This week will be huge for Coach Tyler Santee & Company, as three region games will determine their postseason possibilities.
Â
Golf: The golfers were everywhere this weekend – one of the boys' teams competed in a two-day tournament at Parkview, the girls were also at Parkview Saturday, and another boys' squad hit the links at Oak Mountain Park Saturday.
Â
The big news was no surprise as it was senior
Haven Ward who walked away with hardware after taking first overall after shooting an incredible 68. She had good help around her in
Katherine Stembridge,
Jane Fuller, and
Maybrie Mattson.
Â
For the boys' at Parkview,
Shaan Sanghvi fired an 83 to lead the field; he had excellent support from Matt Binney,
Devan Sanghvi, and
Thomas Peeler.
Â
At Oak Mountain,
Nicholas McKay led the squad with an 81.Â
Â
Baseball: The baseball team (18-2) notched three victories over the weekend; the Bears swept Stone Mountain 15-0 and 17-1 Friday before pulling out a 9-8 win in nine innings over Pace.
Â
Starting with Game 1 vs. the Pirates,
Taylor Fuller went 3-for-3 with three driven in and two runs scored to lead the hitting.
Eric Malsom,
Luke Binney, and
Jack Fernandez were all 1-for-1 with two RBI, and other hits came from
Chandler Ketchup,
Dylan Radaszewski (also an RBI), and
Emmett Campbell. Rad and Campbell each drove in one as well.Â
Â
Harrison Fahy got the win, throwing all three innings and striking out six.
Â
In Game 2, hitting stars were Fuller, Ketchup, and
Matt Luigs as each had two hits. Others who chipped in were David Jabaley,
Zach Jackson,
Ian Graves,
Braxton Padgett, and
Will Holland.Â
Â
Wes Lybrook picked up the win, he fanned four in three innings of work.
Â
Moving to the Pace contest, Jackson and Campbell each went 2-for-4 – Jackson drove in two and Campbell one – while
Tucker Martin, Padgett, Luigs, Fuller, and Ketchup also added hits.
Â
The Bears used five pitchers in the marathon – Jabaley struck out six in three and two-thirds innings of work.
Â
Track: The track team is in the middle of a two-day event – both days are at the Pace Complex and 16 teams are entered. Saturday saw some impressive results; two top performances came in the 3,200-meter run where
Tatum McKinnis took 6th with an 11:48 while Gavin Miles ran a great race for the boys with a 10:52.Â
The boys' 4 X 800-meter relay team also came up big with a 3rd-place finish; the squad consisted of
Ryan Kelley,
Parker Miles,
Joe Sapone, and
Charlie Reynolds.Â
Â
Many sprinters qualified for Monday's finals, and field event standouts included
Jacobi Murray (5th in shot with a 48-3),
Connor White (5th in pole vault at 12-feet), and Harmony Chenault (5th in high jump at 4-10).Â
As for field event PRs, Jameson Kardian and Jillian Jackson (discus), and Jada Reeves, Jackson, and
