Golf Teams Finish Well at State

Girls take seventh; boys eighth

The 2021-2022 athletic season ended Monday and Tuesday on golf courses across the state – and both Golden Bear girls' and boys' teams put exclamation points on another great year.

The girls finished up a hot Tuesday afternoon at Governor's Towne taking seventh overall as a team. They were led as expected by junior Haven Ward, who opened Monday with a 3-under par and finished the two-day event at third overall among the Low Medalist individual competition.

Haven had good support – as senior Caroline Williams capped off her high school sports' days by shooting her lowest round ever. Underclassman Katherine Stembridge did the same in boosting the Bears.

Over to the boys, they finished eighth as a team at Dogwood Country Club – once again Sewanee signee Colin Edward led the charge as he finished tied for 10th among the individuals.

He, too, had a great group behind him as seniors George Wray, Coleman Smith, Walker Wolf, and Zach Woods played well, as did junior Parker Miles.

Chip shots: George Wray finished his athletic success just days after being named Valedictorian; Parker Miles was just three days out from helping the Golden Bear track team to a state title.

Congrats to Coach Jason Rutledge, his excellent cast of assistants, and all involved with the golf team this spring.
