Final Four!!!!

Boys' soccer moves on with 3-1 win over Starr's Mill

Perhaps the boys' soccer team's postseason success is a case of "The Little Engine That Wasn't Supposed To" but keeps on anyway. Tuesday night was more evidence packed on to evidence, as this time they turned away Starr's Mill on the road 3-1.

This was their third road play win, though – in backing up – this is a team that had to win late in regular season just to be still playing as opposed to having their final goodbyes, writing banquet speeches, and making sure the team moms got their dues.

Moving on - after checking off the "make the playoff" box - this still put them on the road against a #1 region seed and a #5 in the state in Southeast Whitfield. Some late heroics, great defense, and a team that began to prove that "it's not how you start, it's how you finish," took care of that "upset", and it was on to East Forsyth after the 2-1 Whitfield win.

At Forsyth – besides a tough opponent – the Bears took care of business 3-2 in weather conditions that bordered on horrible. Still, this team continued to answer even voices in the halls that were talking of how Coach Tyler's Santee's team "had" a great season.

That word is now out of the picture – they stamped it out along with lingering doubt Tuesday in the 3-1 win over Starr's Mill. The beauty is this isn't a team with one "star" – as if you capitalize on one several more can hurt you. Just ask the above three teams for even further evidence.

The Starr's Mill victory saw Zac Omorode-Ufuoma, Rooker Marshall, and Angelo Ramirez net goals, though Sairis Panah, Bradlee and Christian Williams are a few more who continuously gets in the scoring act. Tucker Gleeson had an assist on the Ufuoma goal.

Around the horn, keeper Preston Cate can stand on his head in making saves – this despite an injury that sidelined him. And he's got a crew in front of him – Ryan Strother, Gleeson, Marshall, Matthew Taylor, and others. Sawyer Goetze also deserves some love - he stepped in during the Cate absence and kept opponents at bay as well.

Miller King and Thomas Miller are two more who enter in the postseason recaps.

Looking ahead, it's Westminster Friday – a team HI lost to 3-2 in overtime in regular season – but this time maybe a new squad will line up against the rival Wildcats.

This time, in fact, it's a team that believes – and it's always dangerous taking on a team that knows it can.

Stay tuned… and Go Bears!
