2024 Boys' Soccer Preview

In the 2023 season, the boys' soccer team ended its season with adrenaline, taking third in region, and advancing to the second round of the state before falling to the #1 team in the NATION in Johnson County in a great match.

What to look for this year?

"We want to build off of all last year's success," Coach Tyler Santee said. "This time around we've brought in a couple of new seniors and we've got some great returning attacking players as well. The key to this season is going to be figuring out our defensive strategies and structure, as three of our six graduates were defensive starters.

"Still, so far things are going well; we're just working on putting all the pieces of the puzzle together as the year gets going."

Looking at the roster and starting with the strong attack, Sairis Panah was the offensive MVP last season and the top goal scorer; he should have a strong supporting cast around him in the likes of center midfielders Miller King, Ryan Strother, Angelo Ramirez, and Tucker Gleeson.

The two new upperclassmen should also lend hands – or shall we say feet – in Zac Omorode-Ufuoma and Rufus Smith. "They could provide a lot of depth to our attack," Santee added. "They've looked good so far."

In goal, Preston Cate continued to show he was and is among the best of the best, and in front of him are two returning vets in Matthew Taylor and Thomas Miller. Cate's highlight reel saves were a big reason for the excellent second round match against Johnson County.

Looking at the newcomers, Mitchell Bainbridge and the brother combo of Christian and Bradlee Williams are three more promising players.

"We'll be seeing how they work into the mix as the season goes along," Santee added.

As for the region, both Westminster and Druid Hills are expected to be two of the toughest, while Clarkston was the #4 seed last year and again could be strong.

Preparing for this, Coach Santee has put together a strong out of conference schedule that includes a late February date with Class 7A runners-up Walton, Atlanta International School, a Savannah trip that will include Richmond Hill and Savannah Country Day, as well as some others.

Santee's bunch will open with two games next week – they will host North Springs Tuesday before taking on AIS Friday.

"We always have some good games against AIS," Santee added.
