Boys' Varsity Lacrosse Dunn Neugebauer

Friday/Saturday Spring Sport Wrap-up

Below are the recaps from varsity action Friday and Saturday:

Girls' soccer: The Lady Bears remained without a loss Friday night as they held off East Coweta on the road for a 4-3 win. HI scores came from Maria Utz (2), Bev Benedict, and an on goal, while Benedict passed off for two assists. In the field, Ava McMasters was solid all over; our top defenders included Grayson Roberts and Reese Jackson.

Boys' soccer: The boys' fell 7-0 at East Coweta, the victims of a tough first half start and some early mistakes. Regardless, HI got good efforts out of Marcos Pacheco and Thomas Goetze, and also had an improved second half.

Boys' lacrosse: Patrick Ammons' squad got some good offensive efforts but unfortunately came out on the downside of a 17-7 score against Greater Atlanta Christian. Walton Sullivan led the scoring with five goals; Emerson Grubb and Noah Carlson also played well on offense.

Baseball: After being rained out Friday night, our Bears took it out on St. Francis Saturday with a 9-1 victory. HI collected eight hits, with two each from Matt Luigs and Braxton Padgett. Padgett also drove in two while Luigs scored twice. Others with hits included Chandler Ketchup, Zach Jackson, Ian Graves and Will Holland.

The pitching was superb – Tyler Malsom got the win, going five innings while striking out five and allowing only three hits. Taylor Fuller threw the last two frames and fanned two.

Track: Our Running Bears hosted Pace and Paideia Saturday and had some great results. Two school records went down – Jacobi Murray broke the shot put mark while our girls' distance medley team of Reese Martin, Tia Smith, Kate Ponder, and Tatum McKinnis also etched their name on the record board.

There were plenty other stellar efforts – Skyler Hall won the 150 and the 300-meter runs, Ava McMaster was second in the 300 and third in the 150, Drew Bomar was second in the long jump, Kate Ponder earned the silver in the 600, Parker Miles and Bobby Beck were 2nd/3rd after Sapone in the 600, and Lindsey Ponder was second in the discus. Murray also won the discus, Jillian Jackson took the bronze in the same event.

Besides the above, MANY turned in personal records in their events.
