Two points! Girls' hoops beat Winter Haven 65-63, Heard County 73-43 and lost to Grace Christian 52-43 and 52-47 to Good Counsel over break. Loriel Murray had 18 points, 10 rebounds vs. Winter Haven while Elana McMasters had 13 points and Makayla Weaver 11. Against Heard, McMasters scored 32 points and Murray and Makayla Weaver both added 13. Against Fleming, Makyla Weaver scored 18, McMasters 15, and Murray 13. th grade beat Mt. Paran 46-43 Wednesday. Kimora Wynn (18), Ayokunmi Iyanda (10), Kynlee Swain, and Spencer Fowler (9) starred.
Three points! Boys' basketball beat Lovett 56-51 Wednesday and Carver 84-58 Tuesday. Against Lovett, Devin Hutcherson led with 19 points, including his 1,500 of his career; Kai Worthy added 13 and nine rebounds. In the Carver win, Worthy had 21 points, 10 rebounds, Hutcherson 18 points, 7 boards, and Jade McCullough 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. They lost 57-52 to Northside Christian (FL) over break but rebounded for a 63-44 win over Berkley Prep (FL)… McCollough scored 19 and had four assists vs. Northside, while Hutcherson had 15 points,16 rebounds, and four assists. Vs. Berkley, Hutcherson, Jordan Mays, McCullough, and Worthy excelled…JV fell 42-41 to Lovett Wednesday, despite good play from Matthew Somersall, Charlie Mace, and Bryce Floyd.
Pin! Varsity and JV Mat Bears faced Marist Wednesday. Standouts were Cannon Doyle, Logan Walker, Hardy Forsberg, and Ridge Henningsen. Over break, they competed at the Prep Slam last weekend and in New Orleans before that. At the Slam, Thomas Dougherty placed sixth while Phillip Griffin and Finn Ferrero also had good showings. In New Orleans, almost every wrestler got at least one win; Dougherty placed third... MS also competed Wednesday at Marist, with winners including Chip Cummings, Ridge Hodgson, Rhodes Wing, Wesley Logan, Jack Mondelli, Brayden Briles, William Peden, Mason McCarthy, Dylan Lash, and Harrison Walker.
Splash! The Aqua Bears competed at the Madeline Jude Brown Invitational over break and came away with two more state cuts. Madeline Brown made the grade in the 50-free, while the boys' 400-free relay team of Bobby Skyrnecki, Marshall Camp, Robert Camp and Aidan O'Connor also qualified.
