It was a great day in the pool at Georgia Tech Saturday for our Aqua Bears, as our girls took first overall among 17 teams and the boys second among 18.
"The drops in times were unbelievable after some grueling workouts this week," Coach
Kristina Nesbitt said. "This year, adding two coaches - former All-American sprinter and UGA swimmer Alan Joel and former Columbia University mid-distance swimmer Joe Englander, has increased the intensity of our workouts, and our swimmers have upped their performances as a result."
Also, there were three new state cuts on the day, with
Madeline Brown making it in the 100-free and
Aidan O'Connor in the 200-free. The girls' 200-medley relay team also got it done with Brown,
Ellison Hroncich,
Eliana Gerbi, and
Lily Hudson getting it done.
"
Lily Hudson dropped a second in the 50-free and just missed the state cut," Nesbitt added "The 200-free was also one of the biggest drops we saw."
The following are more time cuts:
Julia Russell (6 seconds);
Luke Patton (6 seconds), Gerbi (5 seconds), Matt Binney (7 seconds), and O'Connor (state cut and best time of year).
Looking ahead, the Aqua Bears will go to Pace on the 13
th, Wesleyan the 15
th, and back to Pace on the 23
rd and 24
thbefore the State Meet a week later.
