Bears Roar to Shutout Victory

Kipp up next to end regular season

What does a football team do after two heartbreaking losses and a bye week to stew about them? They take it out on its next opponent, that's what they do, and that's what the Golden Bears did in a 49-0 win over Booker T. Washington High School Saturday at Lakewood Stadium.

It was over at half – HI scored 42 unanswered points while allowing only one first down in the opening 24 minutes, with four TDs coming from the offense and two from the defense.

The first two scores came on Ryan Woods to Brayden Bailey hook-ups – the first for a 6-yard score and the second good for 32 yards, which gave HI a 14-0 cushion after a quarter.

In the second period, Bailey forced a fumble after a Bulldog reception, which was picked up by Lucas Tiliakos who raced in 25 yards for the TD. After a Jordan Mays interception, Woods then hit Kai Worthy for a 12-yard score, before A.J. Donnelly got in on the barrage from the defensive side with a 35 yard pick-6 to make it 35-0.

Just before half, Woods hit Worthy again, this time for 17 yards to cap off the 42-point half.

The second half was all running clock with the final quarter only 10 minutes. Our Bears' JV put together a 34-yard TD drive in the last stanza, with Colin Horne engineering things at the QB slot, while Dyer Fields and Robert Camp got it done on the ground. Camp ended the march with a 4-yard score. Hudson Stephens added this point after, while Mitchell Bainbridge got the PAT's in the opening half while remaining perfect in that department this season.

Looking at the defensive stars, it was a Who's Who of the roster, with some of the many including Miller Wimberly, Myles Jackson, Finn Ferrero, Landon Murray, Tiliakos, Baily, Ryder Ripps, and then some. The offensive line also excelled, opening up holes all day for HI.

Looking ahead, Coach Nick Perrotta's squad will end regular season next Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Riverwood against Kipp Academy, as our 6-3 (3-2) squad looks to gain home field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs.
