Hoops' Stars, Coaches Sweep Top Honors

There are milestones and markers and memories in all sports, mountains to climb and hopefully top mementoes to collect.

After this year in Holy Innocents' basketball, however, Seniors Caleb Wilson and Hailee Swain and coaches Nichole Dixon and Mario Mays proved to be the "Mount Rushmore" of Class A – AAA after the Atlanta Tipoff Club named its top honors.

For the first time ever, the four top Atlanta Tipoff Club winners went to the same school as Coaches Dixon and Mays were named the Pinholster Award for top coaches while Hailee and Caleb were named Miss and Mr. Georgia Basketball respectively.

"Since the Atlanta Tip-Off Club began its awards in 1983, no school has ever had both Mr. and Miss Georgia Basketball or both the Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year—until now," Athletic Director Tony Watkins said. "We are honored to be part of this historic achievement."

Hailee and Caleb – along with a great supporting cast – has taken hoops' to where it's never been taken at our school. Both were named McDonald's All-Americans a month ago – something that may never happen again here – while both led their teams to state championships on the same day just two short weeks ago.

It was the girls' fifth title in school history and the boys' first. As for the McDonald's honor, Hailee and Caleb were the only two named in the state of Georgia. If this isn't enough, Swain was also recently named a 3rd Team All-America selection for the Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Player of the Year award, while Caleb Wilson was named to the 2nd Team All-America team on the boy's high school side.

Needless to say, they dominated our stat sheets with double and triple doubles, high point and high rebound honors, and even in the assists, steals, and – as far as Caleb – the blocked shots slate.

Looking ahead, Hailee has signed with Stanford; Caleb with UNC and we look forward to seeing their successes as their hoops' road continues to be in front of them.

The Pinholster Award is nothing new to Coach Dixon – this is her third time receiving the honor after she led her team to the fifth state title in school history – the third under her helm. As for Coach Mays, he has led the Bears to three state finals in the past five years, with HI taking the coveted top step to the podium two weeks ago.

Congrats to all four – and congrats to the entire hoops' program for the BEST seasons ever in the 33 year history of varsity basketball.
