Area champs! Both the girls' and boys' golf teams captured the Area Championships Wednesday! The girls knocked off runner-up Wesleyan by six strokes, led by Molly Spector (even par) and Brooke Benedict (78), with support from Sophie Ali-Bubriski, and Camille Paulhus. The boys edged Wesleyan by two, backed by Sammy Herd (medalist runner-up, 2-under), Matt Binney (even), Nick McKay, Logan Skaggs, James Carper, and Will Ginsberg.
Goal! Girls' soccer blanked Prince Avenue Christian 10-0 in the opening round of state last Thursday, with goals coming from Paige Jacquin (3), Morgan Bennett (2), Alexa Henningsen, Lucy Peterson, Avery Bennett, Sydney Williams, and Beatrice Jones. They will face St. Vincent's today (Thursday) on the road.
Corner! Boys' soccer shutout Christian Heritage 10-0 in first round of state. Mitchell Bainbridge (3), Sairis Panah (2), Evan Wandtke (2), Hudson Stephens, Marcos Pacheclo, and Bradlee Williams scored the goals while assists came from Williams (2) Felipe Cruz (2), Chris Cardillo, Panah, Sullivan Swann, Lucas Peck, Pacheco, and Stephens. They will host AIS Friday in Round 2.
Triples! Baseball swept Savannah Country Day 12-0 and 14-0 in the opening round of the state playoffs last week. In Game 1, Taylor Fuller (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Grant Bradley, Gavin Evans, and Dawson Radazweski all had two hits; Amaree Griffin got the win in striking out seven. In Game 2, Fuller (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Cole Hatfield, Bradley, and Ryan Dunham were the hitting leaders while Bryce Floyd picked up the victory. They will host Landmark Thursday in another best-of-three series, game times at 1 and 4 p.m., with the if game Friday.
Run! Track had 14 individuals and a relay team qualify for Sectionals, slated this Saturday at Trinity Christian. Moving on include Colt McNamara (shot, discus), Bryce Smith (high jump), Zion Tillis (triple jump), A.J. Donnelly (triple jump), Andrew Forgione (high jump), Brayden Bailey (100, 200), Harris Bradford (1,600, 3,200), Gavin Miles (3,200), Ellison Losin (1,600), Adrianna Smith (400), Olivia Sharper (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Brendan Ganucheau (110-hurdles, 300 hurdles), Ethan Ganucheau (800), Caden Page (400), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Bailey, Ayden Nida, Brent Warmington, Page).
Ad-in! Girls' tennis advanced to the Elite 8 with a 3-0 win over Darlington Tuesday, with singles wins coming from Rylee Swain and Maia O'Leary and a doubles victory by Maddie Lawrence/Auldyn Patak…Boys' tennis season ended Monday with a 3-0 loss to Wesleyan in the second round of the state.
Lax! Girls' lax advanced to the Sweet 16 Tuesday with an 18-15 win over Northview. Byrdie Chartrand (8 goals), Amzie Boulden (4), and Fallon Kaufman (3) led the scoring; Maddie Spector, Kate Mirgorod, and Ireland Padgett paced the defense. They will travel to Cambridge Friday for second round action.
Re-lax! Boys' lax topped Darlington 10-4 in the first round of state Tuesday. Jack Chaloupek and Henry Broos had three goals each, Matt Neumann added two. Defensively, Dyer Fields, Wyatt Fields, and Hunter Laughlin led the way. They will face Cambridge away Friday as postseason continues…MS boys played North Oconee twice Saturday, dropping the first game 8-5 before winning the second 7-6 in double overtime.
