One week ago, our Holy Innocents' football team did taketh against a mighty Blessed Trinity squad. This Friday night, our Bears were on the giveth end as they easily rolled past the Morrow Mustangs 46-0 down in Ellenwood to kick off Labor Day weekend.
Â
The damage was done in the first two quarters where the Bears put up 43 while giving up only one first down. It was 22-0 after one;
Denim Stevens closed out our opening 13 play, 80-yard drive with a three yard touchdown run.Â
Â
After a Mustang three-and-out, the Bears drove it 49 yards, this time ending with a
Ryan Woods to
Sam Chasteen nine yard scoring strike. Chasteen ran it in for the 2-point conversion to make it 15-0.
Â
The Bears next possession needed only one play to find the end zone, as Stevens raced 52 yards for the score to end the first stanza scoring.
Â
The Bears got a short field on their first possession of the second quarter thanks to a great
Brayden Bailey punt return; Woods finished things off with a 15-yard plunge. When HI got it back, Woods then hit
Hunter Laughlin for a 31-yard TD.
Â
Preston Massie then came up big for the defense, recovering a fumble on their 13, where Woods made them pay with a 13-yard strike to Bailey to end the first half scoring at 43-0.
Â
The second half was running clock; HI got a Bainbridge 33-yard field goal inside of two minutes to end the scoring.
Sam Wimberly had a third quarter interception, and
Colin Horne and running back
Bennett Burroughs looked good keeping the offense moving and winding the clock.
Â
A look at the defensive stars was a who's who of the roster.
Jordan Mays,
Miller Wimberly, Massie,
Lucas Tiliakos,
Finn Ferrero, Bailey, and
Nate Newsome were just some of the stars.Â
Â
Looking ahead, it will be Thursday Night Football at Riverwood at 7:30, when our 2-1 Bears take on Allatoona.
