The baseball team did nothing to kill the momentum this spring has brought us, as they plowed their way into the state finals Thursday afternoon and night with a 10-0, 6-2 sweep over a good King's Ridge team on the road.
Â
Looking ahead, HI will face rival Wesleyan early next week in a best of three series where our Bears will look to win their first state title since 2007.
Â
Coach
Jeff Rowland got lights out pitching in the King's Ridge series – in Game 1 from
Amaree Griffin who went the distance, struck out seven and allowed only one hit.
Bryce Floyd wasn't to be outdone – he also went the full seven innings in giving up only one earned run while fanning six in the nightcap.
Â
Looking at the bats in the opener,
Grant Bradley had a day to remember in going 4-for-5 with two runs driven in and one scored.
Xavier Wilson went 2-for-3 with two RBI;
Jude Smith was 2-for-4 while also plating two.
Â
Others with hits included
Taylor Fuller,
Ryan Dunham, and Dawson Radazweski.Â
Â
In Game 2,
Ryan Dunham went 2-for-3, while
Ryan Woods collected a hit and drove in two in his only at bat.
Cole Hatfield had a 2-for-3 day, while Fuller and Bradley also added a hit each.
Â
The baseball team's success is adding positive gas on our May blaze where girls' soccer, girls' tennis, and boys' track recently brought home state championships, and every spring sport varsity team earned state playoff bids, putting Holy Innocents' among the top of the standings in the coveted Director's Cup.
Stay tuned to this website for updated results and, of course, Go Bears!Â
